ASTON Ingham Cricket Club hosted a lively and well-attended Sponsor Day match on Sunday, featuring a delicious hog roast and a competitive game between the Chairman’s XI and the President’s XI.

Batting first, the Chairman’s team posted a respectable total of 193 runs in their 20 overs, making good use of the 30-run retirement rule that kept the innings flowing. The President’s XI fought back hard but ultimately fell short, finishing on 179.

The match was played under unique rules to keep the action fast and fun: 20 overs per side with four overs bowled per end, a mandatory slip fielding position if more than 11 players were on the field, and all players required to bowl at least one over, with a maximum of three.

Extras such as wides and no balls each added two runs, with no additional deliveries, while free hits added to the entertainment. The final over of each innings had to include six legal deliveries, with extra balls bowled for any wides or no balls.

The game showcased great spirit and camaraderie, with players from both teams making valuable contributions. The President’s XI captain Jack Carpenter led his side valiantly, but the Chairman’s XI skipper Ben Savidge steered his team to a narrow and well-earned victory.

More importantly, the day was about celebrating local cricket and the sponsors and volunteers who help make it all happen, recognising the vital support that keeps the club thriving and growing stronger every year.

In the event of a tie, the rules called for a bowl-off followed by sudden death, but the Chairman’s XI secured the win before that was necessary.

Overall, the day was a perfect blend of cricketing fun, competitive spirit and excellent hospitality, and a great celebration for the club and its community.
