ANTHONY James struck a superb century as Aston Ingham secured an 11-run victory over Chipping Campden in the WEPL Gloucestershire division on Saturday.

James scored 115 from 119 deliveries, hitting 14 fours and three sixes, as Aston Ingham posted 218-7 from their 50 overs before restricting the hosts to 207-8.

Chipping Campden won the toss and elected to field, a decision which initially paid off as Aston Ingham slipped to 40-3.

Ed Bressington made seven, Gus Carini-Roberts added 12 and captain Oliver Henson managed only one as the visitors endured a difficult start.

However, James steadied the innings alongside Dharzekanth Yoganadan, with the pair sharing 65 runs for the fourth wicket.

Yoganadan eventually fell for 25 before Jack Carpenter departed for one, leaving Aston Ingham 109-5.

James then found another valuable partner in Craig Baker, who scored 32 from 46 balls during a decisive 101-run sixth-wicket stand.

The centurion was eventually dismissed with the score on 215, while Dylan McAteer finished with figures of 4-55 for Campden.

The hosts lost Sam Groves and Matt Andrews with the score on ten during their reply, before Mason Salvage and Jack Groves offered some resistance.

Campden were reduced to 68-5, but Sam Nicholls and McAteer revived their hopes with a 98-run partnership.

Nicholls made exactly 50 from 68 balls, including six fours and a six, while McAteer contributed 51 from 71 deliveries.

Both fell with the score on 166, leaving Campden facing a difficult final ten overs.

Charlie Tamcken struck 19 from 33 balls, but the hosts finished 11 runs short of their target despite receiving 37 extras.

Carpenter, James and Tim Dulson each claimed two wickets as Aston Ingham completed the victory and collected the maximum 20 points.

Victory strengthened Aston Ingham’s position and rewarded a disciplined display with bat and ball.
