*THAT would be the Gillman Oval rather than the London ground with a similar name as Huntley Cricket Club live-streamed one of its matches for the first time.

Video of the Saturday’s Cheltenham, Gloucester and Forest League Division Two West game against Woodpeckers is still available on Play Cricket website.

As well as making the action available to anyone to watch from wherever they happened to be, the players appreciated being able to review their own performance.

The video was ‘plugged into’ the Play Cricket scoring software and the fall of each wicket is linked to the scorecard.

On a scorching hot day, leaders Huntley knew that victory against the fourth-placed visitors from Gloucester would be a big step towards promotion to the first division.

Despite the conditions, agreed to play the full 40 overs, with drinks breaks every 10 overs, writes Duncan Foot.

Huntley, winning the toss, took the tactical decision to put the visitors into the field first.

Opening the batting was captain Rich Bowman and Steve Powell, looking to soak up some early pressure, and from the first ball the plan looked good.

By the end of the third over Bowman was on 25 from 13 balls.

A strong partnership was formed, with 117 runs added before Bowman was caught by Mungo Chambers, off the bowling of Martin Coupe in the 18th over, for a score of 61 from 48 balls, including 11 fours and a six.

Josh Cooper then joined Steve in the middle, and the pair looked to frustrate the opposition, slowing the game and ensuring the full 40 overs were played out.

Powell was run out in the 27th over for a superb 65, which released Tom Mann into the fray.

Tom went on the attack right away which also spurred Josh on to play more shots before he too was run out after a mix up midway between the wickets.

With the score on 180-3 Colin Reeves was sent out with instruction to ensure the batting points were secured before pushing up the run rate.

By the 34th over the batting points had been achieved and Tom was bowled in the 38th over for 34, heralding the arrival of Kristian Abbott who went after every ball and generated some much-needed excitement at the close of the innings.

He was caught in the final over which allowed Steve Wood a cameo performance to finish the innings on 245 for 5, with Colin on 34 not out.

Woodpeckers had to drop their opener, Martin Coupe, to 11th after pulling his back during his last over of bowling.

A couple of controversial moments early on in the innings where wickets were not given created some friction but the team became more determined and were helped by an early wicket caught and bowled by Tom Mann.

The pairing of Jon Cadoux-Hudson and Fin Coupe looked to be swinging the match in favour of Woodpeckers before Fin was out thanks to a sublime catch from Beth Powell off the bowling of Abbott in the 10th over. and by the 14th the visitors were 72-4.

Steve Wood and Colin Reeves each claimed an lbw to shift the momentum towards Huntley.

Wood claimed the big wicket of Cadoux-Hudson who hit the ball onto his own wicket on 97,  accelerating the race to victory.

Wickets falling in consecutive overs left an injured Martin Coupe and veteran Colin Dean to try and snatch the win but they fell 43 runs short in the 37th over.

The whole Huntley team worked hard all afternoon.
