A HISTORIC farmhouse on the edge of the Forest of Dean has been featured in Country Life magazine as one of Gloucestershire's finest rural homes while being offered for sale with a £3.5 million guide price.

Grade II*-listed Pound Farm, in the hamlet of Tillers Green near Dymock, dates back to around 1530 and has been described in The Buildings of England: Gloucestershire as one of the county's finest timber-framed farmhouses.

The property sits within 58 acres of formal gardens, pasture and paddocks close to the Gloucestershire and Herefordshire border, around four miles from Ledbury.

Current owners Angela and Glyn Miles bought the property in 2009 after searching for a home where they could keep their horses. At the time, the farmhouse and surrounding buildings were in a poor state of repair, prompting the couple to embark on a major restoration project.

Working alongside advice from English Heritage, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings and architectural historian Richard Morriss, they carefully restored the farmhouse while preserving its historic character.

According to Country Life, Pound Farm was once owned by the influential Cam family for more than 200 years as a copyhold estate of Dymock Manor. It also features a historic carp lake believed to have once been farmed by monks from nearby Flaxley Abbey.

Today the farmhouse offers almost 8,000 square feet of living space across three floors, including three reception rooms and a country kitchen with a cream Aga, exposed beams and stone flooring.

The property has four large bedrooms, including a principal suite with a four-poster bed, dressing room and freestanding bath.

The estate is being marketed through Savills and is described as an ideal home for equestrian buyers thanks to its stables, paddocks, cider orchard and picturesque countryside setting.
