Entries for Smiths 1st and 2nd October sale are now closed. In the final week of taking in Smiths accepted some beautiful and interesting items and it’s looking like it will be a fantastic sale.

With Tourmaline and Opal being the birthstones for October, it was only fitting that Smiths should receive an exceptional 18ct gold and tourmaline necklace. The necklace features a carved pink tourmaline fan-form pendant, accented with a small cabochon emerald and diamond detailing.

Oozing with personality, the necklace has a wonderfully unique design and impressive colour. It is certainly the kind of piece that would be a talking point wherever it is worn.

Two further opal rings have also been consigned for the sale, one of which is particularly beautiful. The oval opal is set between two rows of graduated diamonds and carries an estimate of £600–£800.

Also arriving at the 11th hour was a 9ct gold pocket watch, complete with a 9ct gold fob chain. The vendor had inherited the watch from his grandfather, but it had been sitting in a drawer for years. He was therefore delighted to discover that the watch could potentially sell for around £3,000.

Don’t forget that, although entries are now officially closed for the October sale, Smiths will continue to hold their drop-in jewellery valuation days every Tuesday.

Although it may feel like a long way off, Smiths have already started receiving coins and banknotes for their next coin sale. The sale will most likely take place in early February, but as coins can be very time consuming to research and value, Smiths are accepting entries from now.

For larger collections, Smiths can provide a receipt to the vendor and then work through each consignment in preparation for the February sale.

Smiths have already begun the photography process and, so far, have photographed all the paintings that have been consigned. These will be ready to hang on the walls once the furniture is in position. The remaining 1,000 plus lots will then be photographed once the saleroom has been fully laid out for viewing and the sale days.
