COUNCILLORS are asking what has happened to money they believed had been earmarked for a roundabout at a death trap road junction near Newent.
Town councillors believed money from developers building homes at Onslow Road would be used to improve Aylescroft junction.
Highways chiefs claim that although a roundabout is in their long-term plans, the money has never been found.
They have agreed to look again at the junction which motorists say is getting busier and busier as the town grows.
But they say drivers need to be more careful and have asked police and road safety chiefs to get involved.
Town councillors raised the issue after being contacted by a member of the public who claimed there have been a series of accidents at the junction where Gloucester Road joins the B4215 Newent bypass.
All agreed that the junction is confusing and motorists wrongly occupy both lanes as they wait to turn right to Gloucester or left towards Ross-on-Wye.
They fear someone will be killed because motorists turning right off the bypass are faced with a potential head-on collision.
It also means that fast-approaching traffic from the Gloucester direction can't be seen until it is too late.
