A SUPERB opening stand of 161 between Ian Dunn and Richard Edginton put Westbury firmly in the driving seat against Witcombe.

All-rounder Edginton hit 14 fours and three sixes in his 80 ball knock, unluckily falling lbw to Newton one run short of a century.

Dan Hockaday joined Dunn to add a further 128 runs.

Hockaday went for 52, but Dunn carried his bat for an unbeaten 118, htting 16 fours and a six in his 140 ball innings. Westbury closed on 314-2.

Any thoughts that the game was over were soon dispelled as Witcombe took advantage of a great batting surface to get within 14 runs of the Westbury total, scoring 300-9 off 45 overs. Rhian Burford led the way with 104, aided by John Newton (41) and James Dingle (44).

Richard Edginton (3-54) and Dan Hockaday (2-60) took key wickets to check Witcombe's pace, but both sides contributed much to an entertaining game of cricket.
