PARENTS in Coleford are being asked to monitor their children’s social media use after reports of teenagers threatening and being violent towards each other.

Police are investigating reports of threats having been made online in the last few weeks and have warned they will take “robust action” against those involved.

Forest of Dean Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Nick Cook said: “In recent weeks, there have been a number of reports of young people threatening or engaging in violent behaviour in Coleford.

“This sort of behaviour is not acceptable and we will not tolerate these dangerous incidents.

“The young people of Coleford have a right to feel safe and protected in their own community.

“We will deal robustly with anyone we find engaging in this behaviour.”

Officers are working with partner agencies to ensure wider safeguarding measures are in place, and Crimestoppers’ youth division Fearless is arranging sessions to educate school pupils around violence.

Anyone who witnesses an assault is asked to report it to Gloucestershire Constabulary online at www.gloucestershire.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime, or call 999 in an emergency.
