BROADWELL villagers are rejoicing after the reopening of their local social club.

The Broadwell & District Ex-Servicemen's Club has opened its doors again after staving off the threat of permanent closure.

The club closed temporarily after running out of money to pay the wages of the stewards who lived in a bungalow next door. Ian and Alison Baglin are still in the bungalow.

"We still have a lot of debt but we have volunteers that are working free of charge to run the club and some villagers are giving donations," said committee member Joyce Burford.

"At the moment the club is being run on goodwill."

"We are hoping people will choose to have their functions here.

"We can host it all, from parties to christenings and wakes, as well as groups from around the community."
