A team of self-styled ghost watchers have uncovered spooky goings-on at the Speech House Hotel.

Ghost Watchers, Inc. are a group of local paranormal investigators who took a trip to the Dean's best-known landmark looking for spooks and spirits.

Among their numbers is Clairvoyant Medium Toni Hunt, a former Metropolitan Police officer based near Littledean, who offers a spiritual insight to fit in with the teams scientific techniques.

Armed with infra-red cameras, Ouija boards, laser grids and audio recording equipment, the group captured what could be past occupants trying to communicating with them.

Phil Jones, founder and lead investigator of the group, found the hotel to be "very active" with lots of unexplained activity.

"There is definitely a lot going at the Speech House," said Phil, who lives in Monmouth.

"We recorded some EVP, or Electronic Voice Phenomena, this is something equipment would pick up but you wouldn't hear with your own ears at the time, because it is a different frequency.

Another piece of equipment that we used was an experimental piece of equipment called a Franks, or Ghost Box.

On their second visit, they heard the name 'Emma' come through on this piece of equipment, when a question was asked if any spirits were present in a particular room.

"On our first visit Toni picked up on two children, one of whom that Toni picked up on the name Emma," said Phil.

"So this happening made it all the more significant, that this name was captured on our second visit.

"What was also interesting was that we asked spirit to name one of the other people in the room at the time, and the name 'Richard' was clearly heard. That happened to be the name of one of our camera men in the team."

The team also picked up several orbs on their Infra Red camera equipment, but like the sounds which were recorded, Phil said "it was most important to try and disprove what was found with rational or scientific explanations first, rather than jump to the conclusion that it was a paranormal occurrence."

"Obviously in a live hotel such as the Speech House there are a lot of noises that wouldn't be abnormal," he said.

"Also Digital cameras will pick up orbs that are nothing more than lights reflecting off dust or moisture 99% of the time.

"But what we have included in the video is what we've scrutinised and found to be out of the ordinary."

"We are a research team first and foremost, and our aim is to gather evidence, and then allow people to make up their own mind wither if they see it as Paranormal Activity or not".
