CINDERFORD trader Adrian Wilce has renewed calls to make a busy town road a one-way street after a lorry hit the side of his shop last week.

Mr Wilce, owner of the Happinest Grocery Store, called the police after a lorry scraped the side of the building in Wesley Road and left the scene at around 1pm on August 6, says it’s only a matter of time before somebody gets hurt.

He said: “We’ve been hit several times. The junction is a real danger. There’s an incident almost everyday. The trouble is nothing is done until there is a really bad accident. We’ve seen dozens of bangs outside our shop.

“I think the solution would be introducing a one-way system going on Wesley Road so that traffic could only go down it.”

A police spokesperson said: “ “The HGV damaged the rendering and wooden window frame of a building - the fruit and vegetable shop. The lorry didn’t stop. There is a clear sign saying the road is not suitable for HGVs.”

Brian Watkins, Gloucestershire County Council highways manager, said: “There are clear signs encouraging larger vehicles to avoid this road. We will continue to monitor traffic on these roads to see if anything else can be done.”
