Paulton Rovers 1

Cinderford Town 0

CINDERFORD'S play-off hopes were all but dashed on Saturday with this defeat at Paulton.

Ben Lacey scored the only goal of the game 10 minutes from the end, blasting in from an acute angle after Tovey's cross was knocked into his path.

Town – with Nick McCootie and Leon Jeanne paired together in attack – created enough scoring chances to get something from the game, particularly in the first half.

McCootie, who had a fine match, volleyed the ball into the box towards Greg Lewis, who headed wide.

McCootie intercepted a poor Allward back header intended for the keeper, but Barnes got back to make a saving tackle.

McCootie also shot wide on 32 minutes, then set up Brad Andrews, who was denied by keeper Redwood.

Rovers were arguably the better side in the second half.

Ben John was called upon to make a number of fine saves, but the Foresters still threatened.

Dale Evans sent a free-kick over the bar, while sub Lewis Sommers also went close.

Match winner Lacey went close to scoring a second after breaking the deadlock, but he shot straight at Ben John when well placed.
