Yate Town 0

Cinderford Town 2

DEFENDER Greg Lewis and sub striker Nick McCootie scored second half goals to continue Town's meteoric rise up the league.

Lewis rifled in the opener with the help of a deflection on the hour, then McCootie – who Yate wanted to sign last season – lashed a shot into the net 10 minutes from time.

Cinderford played some excellent football at times, particularly in the second half.

They passed the ball around neatly and looked solid at the back, with Andy Lewis providing an impressive link with the midfield.

Yate, without a win in 12 games, were no mugs, having recently improved their squad.

Plummer had an effort well blocked, while Groves shot over the bar.

Greg Lewis volleyed Cinderford in front from a Dale Evans free-kick after being left in too much space inside the box.

The goal provided Cinderford with renewed confidence and they went close to scoring from three corners. Evans had an effort cleared off the line and another kept out by a superb Dempsey save.

Town's second goal came from a quick counter-attack.

Egan found Danny Haines unmarked, and he unselfishly set up McCootie for his second league goal of the season.
