MIKE Whittington (pictured) notched his sixth goal of the season and the recently-married Lewis Sommers also found the net to extend his and Cinderford's honeymoon start to the campaign.

Whittington broke the deadlock in the 26th minute from a Nick McCootie pass.

Sommers netted just past the hour mark from an Andy Lewis cross.

The visitors were quick out of the blocks and probably should have scored inside five minutes when McCootie found himself one-on-one with the Gosport keeper.

The same player went close on a couple more occasions before Whittington finally made the breakthrough.

Gosport looked sluggish in the first half, but improved after the break.

That was until Sommers capitalised on some poor marking to nod home his second league goal of the season.

Bennett got the ball in the back of the Cinderford net, but the effort was disallowed for offside.

Town's defence hardly looked like being breached again – and the home side left the pitch at the final whistle to a chorus of boos.
