CORSE & STAUNTON batsman Ben Morton played the innings of his young life, smashing an incredible 225 not out for his club's second XI in their Division Six match with Stone II.

Opening the batting, 18-year-old Morton hit 26 fours and nine sixes, batting right through the innings as his team scored 317-4.

It was a one man blitz after Corse lost three early wickets. Adam Gresty (49) eventually gave Morton some support.

Stone were bowled out for 70 in 21.4 overs with James Morton, Daniel Organ, Andy Howe and Adrian Cox taking two wickets apiece.

Corse & Staunton team-mate Jon Hull spent much of his afternoon retrieving balls that Ben had hit out of the ground.

He said: "We didn't have a lot of batting on Saturday so we gave a couple of youngsters a go.

"Ben usually plays for the firsts, batting six or seven and bowling off spin. He couldn't go with them on Saturday because he had to work until 1pm."

All-rounder Ben, who has come through the club's junior ranks, had never made a league century before, although he had made a ton in a Sunday friendly.

Ben's 225 not out is just six runs short of the all-time County League individual record.

That is held by Gloucester Pakistanis player Aamir Raju, who struck 231 in a single innings against Highnam Court last season.

Raju also hit scores of 213 and 188 against Charlton Kings last year.
