GLOUCESTERSHIRE edged an incredibly tight match with Staffordshire by 19-17.

Saturday's action kicked off with the ladies' B team.

There were home wins from Liz Horsley, Kaye Wiggett, Sheila Worvill, Chris Marsh and player of the match Krystal Gibbins as Gloucestershire claimed an early 5-1 lead.

The men's B team drew 6-6, leaving Gloucestershire 11-7 up after day one.

Home winners were: Ashley Chapman, Steve Tyler, Mark Turley, Simon Delaney, Kevin Devries and Dean Baldwin.

Man of the match Kevin, from Newent, averaged 25.91 for a 3-0 win, while Dean hit a maximum in his 3-1 success.

The ladies' A team drew 3-3 with wins from Tracy Bishop, Karen Brown and Wendy Booth.

Star player Wendy averaged 22.10 over three cracking legs.

Taking a 14-10 lead into the final contest, Gloucestershire were pegged back to 16-16 in the men's A team clash.

Man of the match Mark Blandford won 3-0 with an average of 30.06 and Mark Chiswell took his game 3-1, but there were defeats for Henry O'Neill, Shaun Hughes, Paul Smith, John Meek, Ashley Hurrell and James Hurrell.

Steve Handley hit a maximum en route to a vital 3-1 win, then Andrew Morse won 3-2.

Chris Jackson lost 3-2, leaving the match finely balanced at 18-17, but young Liam Devries delivered the goods in the final contest, winning 3-2.

COLEFORD'S Mark Blandford won a darts competition at the Berkeley Nuclear Sport & Social Club that attracted a strong entry of 96. He beat Dave Weston in the final. Dave took out another Forester, John Meek, in the semis.

KEITH Deller was the special guest at a Travis Perkins charity darts night at Riley's Club in Gloucester. Seventeen teams entered with the Stroud Stranglers beating Cinderford Two Rivers in the final. John Virgin, Shaun Powell, Mike Mills and Dean Tillings represented the Cinderford team.
