CINDERFORD'S supermarket scrap looks set for round two as a new planning application from heavyweights Asda has been submitted to build a store near Steam Mills.

Last month, a High Court judge ruled in favour of Midcounties Co-operative's challenge against the development.

The new Asda submission has the backing of Cinderford Town Council, who discussed it this week, and were unanimous in their support.

"The town council has always supported it," said deputy chair Lynn Sterry.

"I don't care what supermarket it is, I just think the people of Cinderford deserve the choice.

"There is a big majority of people in this town who cannot just get in their cars and go anywhere.

"I will fight to my last breath to bring another supermarket to Cinderford for those people."

Written support from the town council has also been sent to the district council.
