Sainsbury's and Asda look set to go head to head in another store wars, raising fears for the future of Lydney town centre.

The supermarket giants are in a race to open a store on the outskirts of town.

Sainsbury's wants to build at Crump Farm and Asda on land owned by MMC which is currrently leased to Federal Mogul.

Civic leaders have voiced concern that the Sainsbury's development of a neighbourhood centre would split the town.

Asday claims 'its'mid-sized neighbourhood supermarket' would not be as much of a threat to the town centre.

But both are now preparing to go into battle to win the custom of hundreds of new families who are moving into the new estates on the outskirts of Lydney.
