A PLAN to restore a stable as a domestic outbuilding at a house near Bream has been rejected by an appeals inspector.

Applicant Ms R Mizen appealed after the Forest Council refused planning permission for the development at Brockhollands.

Planning inspector Martin Allen said the main issue was the effect of the plan on the surrounding area.

The partially-built building, which was to be a stables, is in a field next  to the garden Paisley House.

Mr Allen described it as “an overly obvious and intrusive feature within the landscape.”

Ms Mizen argued that the building would have no more visual impact than a previously approved stable building.

But Mr Allen said it had “a more residential character”.

He added: “The distance from the main house would also result in a divorced building, that does not relate well to the dwelling.

“As such, the scheme would result in an inappropriate intrusion and proliferation of domestic buildings in the countryside.”

It had been argued a similar building could be erected nearby under permitted development rights but Mr Allen was not convinced it was achievable.
