THE DUKE of Gloucester praised the entrepreneurial spirit of Severn & Wye Smokery owner Richard Cook on a visit to the Dean last week.
His Royal Highness Prince Richard arrived at the Chaxhill fishery last Friday before heading to the Fish Hut on the banks of the River Severn in Newnham and then visiting window and conservatories firm Glevum in Broadoak.
Mr Cook said the Duke had an ‘ability to make everyone feel very comfortable’ and took a particular liking to the cured salmon.
“I’m very grateful for all those involved in creating this building,” he added.
“This has been a very successful event for us and that’s down to the way His Royal Highness has been on his visit here.”
The Duke said of Mr Cook: “It’s great to see an example of an entrepreneur.
“You have a great energy and experience. You’ve brought something from Gloucestershire to the rest of the world.”
