Wharfedale 33

Cinderford 25

CINDERFORD carried much more of an attacking threat in Yorkshire, but the reality of a seventh defeat out of eight leaves them precariously placed near the foot of the table.

It all went wrong in a 10 minute spell in the second half when the home side scored 17 unanswered points.

The game started well for Cinderford with Danny Trigg kicking a fourth minute penalty and Rob Winchle slicing through for a try after Codlin fielded a penalty that failed to find touch and set off on a run from his own 22. Trigg converted.

Wharfedale outside-half Thomas Barrett kicked two penalties and a 30m drop-goal, but a second Trigg penalty gave the visitors a 13-9 advantage at half-time.

Wharfedale scored first after the break.

Flanker Daniel Solomi broke off the back of a scrum for a great solo effort, converted by Barrett.

Cinderford struck back when Mike Wilcox cut through tackles and gave a backhanded scoring pass to George Evans, who slipped underneath the posts. Trigg's conversion put his side 20-16 up.

Just after the hour mark Wharfedale turned the game on its head as they got on top in the scrums.

They raced into a 33-20 lead with tries from Philip Woodhead and Joe Quinn, plus a conversion and a penalty from Barrett.

With time running out, Codlin (pictured) went over wide out for a consolation score, with the missed conversion leaving them just short of a losing bonus point.
