PUPILS from St Briavels Primary School dug deep into their local steel industry heritage to take centre stage at the Royal Horticultural Society Spring Festival at Malvern.
The children, with a little help from their parents, created a ‘Robert Mushet Steel’ garden, which won the Bam construction company’s Best Build Award and a an RHS Commendation.
The garden was an after school project for the whole school with each class working of a different element. Year one pupils made some mosaics, while years three and four created a bug hotel and years four and five made bunting.
Headteacher Sarah Helm, said: “The Mushet Garden project has been an inspirational learning opportunity for our pupils.
“The creativity and engagement the children have demonstrated through being involved each step of the way is a model for experience based learning.
“It has been a delight to watch as the children have proudly brought their designs to life and the sharing of skills across our community’s generations has been a joy to behold.
“It has taken vision, imagination and hard work. We are proud of the Mushet achievements, proud of our heritage, proud of our spectacular garden and proud of ourselves.”
