A RUNAWAY spaniel had to be rescued after an angry swan kept him captive on a snow-covered island for three days.

Terrified Todd's latest adventure came to a sticky end when the swan spotted him swimming across the lake and went into attack mode every time he tried to get back to shore.

After being rescued by a farmer who went to investigate howling, he is recovering at home none the worse for being outdoors in sub-zero temperatures.

But his owners hope the ordeal finally put Todd off his habit of running off towards the nearest stretch of water and diving in.

Only days earlier he had actually plunged into the icy waters of the River Severn and swum around six miles to Gloucester Docks.
