Jersey 16

CINDERFORD registered their first league win of the season in dramatic fashion, with outside-half Rory Teague kicking a superb penalty from the halfway touchline to clinch the points.

The match was in the balance right up to the final whistle.

Teague and Jersey's Michael Le Bourgeois exchanged a couple of penalties apiece in an even first half-hour.

Cinderford piled on the pressure as half-time approached, after Jersey lock Kingsley Lang had been yellow carded.

A charge down in goal resulted in a 5m scrum and after a couple of attempts at pushovers the referee awarded the home side a penalty try which Teague converted.

There was still time for Le Bourgeois to kick his third penalty to make it 13-9 at the interval.

Cinderford's defence had to be strong in the early stages of the second half as Jersey came out firing, but they held firm and Teague was able to increase the lead when the visitors were penalised for an off-the-ball incident.

With Cinderford tiring in the final quarter – and lock Ben West in the sin-bin – Jersey looked to have salvaged a draw when Le Bourgeois received a quick tap penalty and dived between the posts. His conversion tied the scores.

Teague was the match winner, however, sending over that huge penalty from the halfway line with the last kick of the game.
