RESIDENTS were evacutated from their homes after unexploded Second World War bombs were found on a building site in Cinderford site last week.

Police were called at around 9am on June 10 after builders working on a site above Rock Gardens off St White's Road uncovered 17 mortar rounds.

St White's Road was cordoned off from the Ruspidge Road junction to the entrance of Peacock's Lane and residents within a 200m radius of the building site radius were evacuated from their homes.

A Royal Engineers bomb disposal team from Aschurch recovered the explosives. The mortar rounds were removed to a quarry for a controlled explosion.
