National Two South

Redruth 27

REDRUTH'S superior fitness was a key factor as they fought back from 21-15 down at the break to score all the second half points.

The game started badly for Lydney with Ross Webb having to leave the field in the first minute because his nose would not stop bleeding.

Things looked ominous when the visitors grabbed two unconverted tries inside the opening 15 minutes through Owen Hambly and Tom Duncan, but Lydney improved with Will Jones always in the thick of the action.

Prop Nick Selway crashed over for a try which Brett Turner converted to bring the hosts back into the game.

It was an end to end encounter, with both sides playing open, attacking rugby.

Just past the half-hour, Lydney winger Josh Hannam won a race to the line to score his side's second try, again converted by Turner.

A smart break from Goodfellow set up a try for Chris Fuca, but Redruth's defence was caught napping when Stewart Doust scorched in two minutes before half-time. Turner converted.

Redruth got on top in the second half and seemed to cope better with the energy sapping conditions.

Greg Goodfellow and Tom Notman touched down, with Brett Rule converting just one of the Cornish side's five tries.
