A LOCAL landlady said she is “honoured” that her pub has been named Forest of Dean ‘Pub of the Year’ for a second time.

Sharon Hookings, who owns The Red Hart Inn in Blaisdon, saw her establishment crowned ‘Real Ale Pub of the Year 2022’ by the Forest of Dean branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) last week.

It marks the second time the Red Hart has received the award in recent years, having also won in 2019.

Sharon and her husband Rakesh were presented with the award at the pub by branch secretary Martin Hillier, who was joined by other local CAMRA members and Gloucestershire Chairman Andrew Frape.

Forest of Dean CAMRA describes The Red Hart as a “traditional village pub serving good home cooked food”, with a large beer garden and “wide range” of drinks available.

Martin Hillier said the award recognises the dedication of Sharon and Rakesh in providing a “varied and well kept” range of real ales, in addition to a quality food offering in a “lovely” country pub environment.

Sharon posted online following the presentation: “Thank you Forest of Dean Camra for all your support.

“A real honour to be voted pub of the year for the Forest of Dean!”

The award is the second made by Forest of Dean CAMRA this year, after The Dog House in Coleford was named ‘Cider Pub of the Year’ last week.
