A FORMER printer with The Forester celebrated his 90th birthday on May 21.

Ken Burris of Cinderford worked for The Forest of Dean Newspapers for over 40 years printing the Dean Forest Mercury, Guardian and the Lydney Observer prior to them becoming The Forester at the printing works in Woodside Street, Cinderford when they were owned by the Bright family.

Ken left Double View School at 14 and began his working life at Gloucester Aircraft Company before joining the newspaper group.

He left to do his National Service, he came out of the army in 1951 as a sergeant and went back to the Mercury office, now home to Art Space.

He left for a short time in 1959 and went to work for Fields Printers in Station Street, Cinderford but returned to the Mercury Office in 1960 until his retirement in 1994.
