SO a South Gloucestershire Council (Swindon) is turfing out the old and frail from their little bungalows in order to house families on the waiting list and the elderly are to find their own accommodation – within the next six months?

Some have been there a lifetime and had thought it was their home. I gather that one lady has been offered a flat in a block – what price loneliness, isolation and neglect? Coupled with the cutbacks in care and support and warden supervision, life is looking bleak and hopeless for many.

Is this the shape of things to come? Is the Forest of Dean next on the list?

However, I have a solution! Turn the redundant aircraft carriers into prison ships staffed by some tough chief petty officers to teach self respect, discipline and responsibility to their charges – and moor them somewhere out in the Atlantic.

This way the ships can be kept ready for the next emergency a Government plunges us into!

This would free up the prisons with their en-suite facilities, canteen, library, infirmary and recreation rooms to be turned into accommodation for the elderly where they will be warm and safe.

Something they certainly are not feeling at the moment.
