Speeding drivers got a dressing down from Littledean CofE Primary School pupils as part of a scheme to get the village's speed limit dropped to 20mph.

The children armed themselves with speed guns with help from the police who had challenged them to create a poster for the 20 Is Plenty campaign.

The two winning designs were made into leaflets which were given to speeding drivers who were able to opt out of getting a fine.

One young woman, who was clocked at 39mph at the brow of the hill, skidded dramatically to a halt in the bus stop outside the school after police ordered her to pull over.

Teaching assistant Rebecca Meek said: "The children loved it – they were very interested and engaged.

"I think they also liked the idea of giving an adult a telling off!

"The traffic in the village does seem fast at times and I don't see any problems with the speed limit being dropped to 20mph."

Villager Lori Thacker, 56, said : "It's very difficult to pull out of our drive with the speed of cars coming down the hill so I fully support the limit being dropped.

"It's good to have the children involved as it makes more of an impact than just having the police."

A public meeting is to be held in the village on November 21 at 10.30am about the speed limit in Littledean possibly being reduced.
