Forest Fitness Centre-based special power lifter Nathan Fisher has achieved every athlete's dream – receiving his Great Britain tracksuit.

Nathan will fly out with the British team for the World Special Olympics in Athens in June, and will spend five days acclimatising before the opening ceremony on June 25.

Depending on how the competition is structured Nathan should be lifting on June 27 or 28.

His coach at the fitness centre in Cinderford, Alan Elliott MBE, said: "This will be a wonderful experience for Nathan, after 11 years of dedicated training and competition he truly deserves this opportunity to represent his country at the highest level of international competition."

Nathan recently competed in the Scottish Special Power Lifting Championships. He was defending his senior Scottish title, and lifting at a bodyweight of just 57.7 kilos in the senior 59 kilo class he put in an excellent performance, winning with a top squat of 125 kilos to match his personal best.

He then set a new personal best in the bench press with a top lift of 92.5 kilos.

Nathan has achieved a remarkable track record of success including three gold medals at successive UK Special Olympics.

Nathan thanked all of his sponsors who have helped cover the £2,000 cost of the Athens trip and said "I will do my best for everyone who has helped me to get to Athens."
