LYDNEY prop Leigh Green has signed a contract with Championship side Plymouth Albion.

Leigh played for Plymouth in the midweek British & Irish Cup clash with Newport.

Plymouth lost 24-13, but Leigh acquitted himself well after coming on for the last 30 minutes.

Leigh, who can play on either side of the scrum, will remain at Regentsholme for the rest of the season.

The move signifies a strengthening link between Lydney and Graham Dawe's Plymouth.

In recent seasons, Kyle Marriott and George Porter have also made the step-up from Lydney to Plymouth, with Mark Lee and Aaron Cruickshank coming the other way to help out the Severnsiders.

Lydney team manager Colin Henderson said: "If you are going to move on as a prop, you can learn a lot from someone like Graham Dawe.

"With Nick Bartlett having played there, we have a sound working relationship.

"Graham said he has a couple of lads we can have from the start of next season, but we have to keep the balance. It's all about local boys and that has been a strength this season."

Former England under-18s player Leigh Green is only in his second year of senior rugby.

He is currently studying for a degree in sport and exercise science at the London South Bank University.
