Drivers across the Forest of Dean are being urged to plan their journeys with extra care this month as Gloucestershire County Council prepares to launch a series of targeted infrastructure and utility upgrades. Local authority notices have confirmed multiple temporary road closures and restrictions designed to facilitate vital engineering, water, and drainage works across several parishes.

Among the most significant disruptions for commuters will be a substantial daytime closure on the B4224 Ross Road in Mitcheldean Parish. Highways authorities have finalized an Order to temporarily shut a massive 1,350-metre stretch of the road, running directly from the County Boundary to its junction with Lining Wood.

The closure is required to allow teams to safely undertake essential pole replacement works. To minimize peak-hour chaos, the road is scheduled to close exclusively on June 18, 2026, between the off-peak hours of 11:30 and 5pm.

Meanwhile, urban motorists in Cinderford will face prolonged disruptions on Woodgate Road. A 40-metre section of the street—stretching from outside property 'No. 29' to 'No. 35'—will be subject to a full temporary closure and strict traffic restrictions.

Engineers are moving into the area to conduct urgent drainage works. The closure will begin on June 15, 2026, and is expected to last until June 19, 2026. Residents should note that a strict no stopping, waiting, or loading mandate will be heavily enforced throughout the five-day duration of the project.

As the month draws to a close, two further operations will commence on June 29, 2026:

  • Drybrook Parish: The council intends to close a 370-metre section of the C32 Hawthorns Road from its junction with the High Street to outside the property named 'Netherleigh'. This closure will run from 08:00 to 17:00 to allow Severn Trent Water to complete critical network maintenance.
  • West Dean Parish: Electrical works will trigger a daytime closure on Brockhollands Road. A 300-metre stretch heading eastward from the junction of Oakwood Road/High Street to Beech Way will be completely off-limits between 09:30 and 15:30.

Gloucestershire Highways has confirmed that signed alternative routes will be prominently displayed at every site. Crucially, pedestrian access to all fronting properties and emergency vehicle access will be strictly maintained at all times.
