FOREST of Dean planners have overturned their previous decision to approve a Sainsbury's retail store for Lydney.

Minutes after doing a U-turn on Sainsbury's, they gave Asda the green light to open a store in Lydney.

A spokesman for the firm JD Norman told members at Tuesday afternoon's planning meeting in Coleford that his company had traded for 50 years and that the only way to finance their future was to have an Asda supermarket built on their land.

He warned that a failure to grant permission could jeopardise the long term future of the company.
