A PROPOSAL to build a 72-bedroom care home near Newent was rejected by Forest planners last week. The scheme – which included demolishing Three Ashes House on Ledbury Road to make way for a care home and hydro-therapy day centre – was turned down because it might have a negative impact on the area and would be an unsustainable isolated development in open countryside. Rob Flexer, Cleeve Care managing director, said: "We are disappointed at the decision and are actively considering an appeal. "Our scheme provides much needed care facilities for the elderly and meets the sustainability requirement for environmental, social and economic improvement. It would be a significant investment bringing many benefits to Newent and the surrounding area."
