DOG owners across the Forest of Dean are being offered more tailored care options after a local trainer expanded availability for specialist sessions.

The Hound Squad has announced additional spaces for its popular stay and play days, designed to give dogs a safe and enriching experience while their owners are busy.

With lighter evenings arriving, the service has opened up more weekly slots and is inviting owners to arrange meet and greet sessions to discuss their dog’s needs.

The programme is particularly aimed at dogs who may not thrive in group environments. Rather than large pack walks, sessions can be adapted to suit individual temperaments, including those that are reactive, nervous or simply prefer their own space.

Options include one to one walks in quieter areas, allowing dogs to move at their own pace without stress. There is also a strong focus on enrichment, with activities such as scent games, puzzle toys and confidence building exercises used to keep dogs mentally stimulated.

Handlers can also incorporate light training into the day, including obedience work and focus exercises, helping to build confidence and improve behaviour over time.

For dogs that may benefit from gradual exposure, controlled environments can be arranged where they can observe other dogs, people or busy settings from a comfortable distance.

Equally important is downtime, with decompression periods built in to allow dogs to relax, explore and unwind without pressure.

Owners are kept updated throughout the day with photos and videos, offering reassurance and a glimpse into their pet’s activities.

The Hound Squad is run by an experienced handler with a background in security dog work, alongside qualifications in canine care. The service is fully insured, DBS checked and first aid trained.

The aim is simple, to ensure every dog enjoys a positive, engaging day, regardless of their personality or social preferences.
