A PERMANENT Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy is set to open in Coleford, offering classes for adults, children and families across the Forest of Dean.

Trident Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has announced plans to establish a dedicated training centre in the town, expanding its martial arts offering beyond its existing academy in Swindon.

The club said the new Coleford base would provide structured coaching, live training and practical skills in a professional and welcoming environment.

Its team said it intended to build the academy for the long term, creating a community both on and away from the mats while maintaining strong technical standards.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, commonly known as BJJ, is a grappling-based martial art which focuses on controlling an opponent through techniques including holds, takedowns and submissions.

Trident’s existing programme in Swindon welcomes beginners alongside advanced practitioners and includes separate sessions for children, fundamental skills and experienced competitors.

The organisation says training can help participants improve their fitness, strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health while also developing confidence, discipline and concentration.

Its children’s sessions are designed to provide a safe and supportive setting in which youngsters can learn self-defence, build resilience and develop social skills.

Adult classes, meanwhile, combine technical tuition with physical exercise and are promoted as suitable for people seeking improved fitness, stress relief or competitive training.

The announcement described the forthcoming Coleford academy as a space “built for the local community”.

Further information about the precise location, class timetable and opening date had not yet been announced, with Trident stating only that the new Forest of Dean academy would be “coming soon”.

Updates are expected to be shared through Trident Brazilian Jiu Jitsu’s social media channels as preparations for the permanent centre progress.

The venture will give residents access to regular specialist coaching without travelling outside the Forest area.
