JULY 2, 2012 is a date that one Coleford trader has permanently etched on her brain.

That is the date when car parking charges were introduced across the Forest of Dean – and for 'Purple Kate' from Studio 21 it's also the day the footfall at Pyart Court's Coleford shopping centre dropped off instantly.

The beautician said: "The change was so dramatic it was unbelievable.

"It was literally a change in attitude overnight by the town's shoppers, yet this message fell on deaf ears at the district council.

"It's hard running a business when times are good, but even harder in times like this.

"I must have been mad to even consider consolidating two units into one large unit at Pyart Court in April. But I did, despite many businesses closing down around me.

"I think that if Tesco came into Coleford, it would only be good for the town. We need a reason not to go elsewhere for our shopping."
