BETTER gateways are to be provided into Newent – because some people don't know where the town actually starts and ends.

The town council has agreed to support plans for an avenue of trees to form an eastern gateway into the town.

Coun Tony Parsons said: "I think we should be ashamed of ourselves in some respects, for the way we actually sell Newent.

"You come from Gloucester and you go straight through to the traffic lights – you wouldn't even realise that Newent is worth stopping at.
