WIND turbines are not welcome where I live. I suggest those people who admire them have a neighbourhood meeting to discuss having them.

In North Lydney at Ned's Top, we did this three years ago and it resulted in a petition opposing turbine development in North Lydney. I believe the 450 signatories still feel the same way, and that is confirmed by the Town Council election for Lydney last week where the leading candidates were both opposed to wind turbines and were overwhelmingly supported.

Let us hope that the planners and developers of turbines, particularly in our area at Nursehill Farm, take note of public opinion. The developers are very good at bringing out a minority of investors and green activists in support of schemes and publicising their offers of community bribes, but the reality is that most local people are opposed to industrial scale turbines and prefer other more community owned renewables.

Solar roofs are a perfect example of a personal investment that has no impact and makes a low carbon contribution without a devastating impact. The Government's long vaunted tightening of planning rules gives more say to local communities and protection of the landscape. When the District Council implements them let's hope this tyranny is finally removed.
