THE likelihood of another supermarket reviving the reputation of a dull Lydney is zero.
All we would see would be the loss of even more interesting small shops. Certainly Lydney needs something to draw more visitors. Perhaps a good hotel would encourage them? Unfortunately our shortsighted council sold the land of Lydney's largest and most historic hotel to Tesco! And there is now no sign of it, nor a decent hotel in the town.
I hope the council will show better judgement in the Sainsbury's case and follow the good judgement of the planning department for once. Any free land should be used for housing.
