NEWENT Parkrun celebrated its 200th event on Saturday morning with a larger than normal contingent of about 110 for the timed five kilometre trot.

Organiser Sally Taylor sad: “It was a very good turn out with visitors from other areas coming along to support. Just to make it interesting the runners did the course in reverse.

“We didn’t have any personal bests as the going was only ‘good to soft’ to use racing parlance.

“Special thanks go to race director Adele Mitchell, who started the event four-years ago and has been at every event since.

“We also thank all the volunteers who do the marshalling, timekeeping and catering and of course Newent School who let us use their facilities.

“Without all these people the run just wouldn’t happen.”
