A LOCAL choir is looking for people to ‘hit all the right notes’ at rehearsals for their winter concert next month.

Newent Choral Society is ready to welcome new members in all sections - soprano, alto, tenor and bass - to their rehearsal sessions at Newent Memorial Hall, starting on Tuesday, September 6.

The works being rehearsed are ‘Gloria’, one of the most popular and famous sacred works by Antonio Vivaldi, and Gabriel Faure’s ‘Requiem’, which will be performed at the society’s Winter Concert on Saturday, November 26.

Society chair Angela Jones said: “If you enjoy singing, now is the time to discover how rewarding and enjoyable the experience of choral singing can be.

“We have a brilliant Musical Director in Nia Llewelyn Jones, who is gaining an international reputation, and has conducted us in many memorable performances in the past.

“Nia will always gets the best out of a choir, experienced singers and new members alike.”

The society has in the past performed with choirs of more than 60 members, and, after a difficult couple of years due to the pandemic, is hoping to build back to those numbers in the future.

Angela added: “New members will not have to audition to join the choir, although some musical knowledge would be useful.

“And the evenings are not all about singing, we make time to socialise so you can learn a new skill and make new friends at the same time.”

Those interested in joining the society should contact Angela on 07792 872523, or just turn up to the first rehearsal at 7pm.
