CANNOP Cycle Centre has been given a new name by Forestry England (FE) to "make it more recognisable and reflect its importance" to the Forest of Dean.

FE announced last Thursday (October 21) that the popular cycle centre on New Road in Cannop would thereafter be known as the ’Forest of Dean Cycle Centre’.

The FE-owned centre is home to bike hire company Pedalabikeaway, which has a bike hire shop and cafe onsite, and is surrounded by some of the Forest’s most iconic mountain biking trails.

The "hugely popular" trails reported draw around 35,000 visitors every year.

FE says the change has been made in support of the "huge" investment it has put into the centre over the last 18 months.

Around £200,000 has been spent on projects including the Verderers, Countdown and Launchpad trails and skills area.

A spokesperson for FE said: "This investment is something we will be continuing, and we hope that this new name will make the centre more recognisable and reflect its importance within the Forest of Dean."
