Exploring the Forest of Dean just became easier with the launch this month of a new, free, fold-out map and guide for the Forest.

Created by Foresters’ Forest with National Lottery Heritage funding and working in partnership with the many organisations and visitor attractions listed, this is a jam-packed guide to the Forest of Dean featuring no less than 38 key places to visit.

Including striking photos and a detailed map, the guide describes key places to visit in the Forest of Dean along with listing walking trails, whilst also providing details about the area’s industrial and historical past, it’s people and culture along with how to make the most of exploring the Forest’s woods, wildlife and ‘hidden heritage’.

Sue Middleton, Programme Manager for Foresters’ Forest, and editor of the guide, says: “This colourful guide reveals the rich heritage of the area, both past and present, whilst at the same time telling our forest story. Some of the places and species featured have benefited from National Lottery Heritage funds through the Foresters’ Forest programme. We hope that this guide will encourage people to explore our natural, built and cultural heritage and find out why our Forest is so special.”

Ella Beard of the Tourist Information Centre in Coleford, adds: “We are delighted to have this excellent map and guide at the Tourist Information Centre. It meets the needs of visitors and locals alike, demonstrating the diversity of fascinating places, wildlife, people, history and attractions of our fabulous Forest. Foresters’ Forest with funding from National Lottery Heritage fund have produced this gem and everyone will want a copy.”

The map and guide is available from local visitor attractions within the Forest of Dean area, including the Tourist Information Centres.
