THE parents of three-year old twin Cystic Fibrosis sufferers feel they may be seeing some light at the end of the tunnel in their campaign to have access to a potentially life saving drug.

Hewelsfield couple Victoria and Ian Blair’s two sons, James and Alex, both have cystic fibrosis, a cruel, debilitating illness that shortens and severely reduces quality of life.

At present, the cost of Orkambi, a Cystic Fibrosis drug produced by Vertex Pharmaceuticals in Boston, is about £104,000 a year per patient which the NHS says it cannot afford.

Negotiations over the price the NHS should pay have been in stalemate since July, last year, with Vertex refusing to reduce the price.
