COUNCILLORS are taking steps to prevent fish dying in Newent Lake.
A new aerator will be installed as a short term measure to prevent oxygen levels in the lake from falling.
Town councilors met at an extraordinary meeting last week to address the situation after oxygen levels had drop to critical the previous week.
Len Lawton, District councilor for Newent, said: "We have looked at the short term solution and will be taking propositions for a longer term solution for the lake.
"For now we will invest in another airator to be installed at the Gloucester end of the Newent lake. For the long term we will be looking at other measures. We may consider reducing the numbers of fish in the lake."
