Hungerford Town 0

Cinderford Town 0

ASSISTANT manager Steve Peters was delighted with Cinderford's performance away at Hungerford on Tuesday night.

"We were the better side by miles," said the former Bristol Rovers midfielder.

"I think we would have taken a 0-0 result before the game because Hungerford have been flying recently.

"We drew 0-0 with Yate and were very disappointing, but this was a good 0-0. I thought we were outstanding."

Town were without striker Leon Jeanne, who is on a training camp in Tenerife trying to get himself fully fit.

Tom Billing and Nick McCootie returned to the starting line-up.

Cinderford played down the massive Hungerford slope in the first period and did everything bar score.

They had a shot cleared off the line, hit the post and Tom Billing missed two one-on-ones with the Hungerford keeper. Having not taken their chances, the visitors expected to come under more pressure in the second-half, playing up the slope.

However, they continued to dominate.

The sending off of Nick McCootie 20 minutes from time, following a second yellow card, enabled Hungerford to get back in the game during the final quarter.

Peters added: "We should have been four up by half-time.

"Tom Billing missed a few chances but you can't criticise him too much because he worked hard to get himself in the right positions."

By a curious twist of fate, Hungerford come to The Causeway this Saturday for an immediate rematch.

"I think they'll want to prove a point," said Peters.

"No doubt about it, they're a good side, and they'll be up for it on Saturday because I think they under-estimated us.

"We've got Gosport Borough away on Monday night as well so it's going to be a busy few days.

"It might be spicy on Saturday because there were a few niggles and bookings on Tuesday.

"We have to start favourites though.

"If we play like we did on Tuesday I'll be happy."

Peters believes Cinderford can still sneak into the promotion play-offs despite their lower mid-table position.

He added: "It's a funny league where everyone can beat everyone.

"I think Totton will win the league but there's lots to play for.

"We just have to try and string a few wins together."
