FOREST of Dean MP Matt Bishop has paid tribute to the Armed Forces ahead of this year’s national day of recognition, calling on residents to show their support at local events, including the community celebration in Cinderford.
Armed Forces Day 2025 takes place on Saturday, June 28, rounding off a week of national activity honouring the contributions of service personnel, veterans, reservists and cadets.
In a statement, Mr Bishop said: “Armed Forces Day presents us with a vital opportunity to pay our respects for the courage, commitment and sacrifice of those who serve, and have served in defence of our nation.”
“Here in the Forest of Dean, we’re especially proud of our strong military heritage and the numerous veterans and service families who contribute so much to our community.”
Mr Bishop praised the “bravery and dedication” of both regular and reserve personnel in the Forest, while also recognising the key role played by families, cadet units and volunteers in keeping the Armed Forces community active and supported locally.
“The values of duty, resilience and service are woven into the fabric of Forest of Dean life,” he said. “On this special day, let’s not only offer our thanks but also renew our commitment to supporting those who defend the freedoms we often take for granted.”
He also highlighted the importance of local participation and encouraged residents to attend the upcoming Armed Forces Day event in Cinderford, taking place on Saturday, June 28 from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM at Edge Hills Road.
“This special day is a chance to come together and celebrate the dedication and service of our Armed Forces, Veterans, and Cadet Forces,” he said.
The Forest of Dean will join communities across the country in marking Armed Forces Day through parades, showcases, flag-raising ceremonies and family events.
