A 78-year-old Lydney man was rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries after a serious road crash on the A48
The man was taken to Frenchay Hospital after the crash yesterday afternoon.
The pensioner was cut free from a silver Rover 414.
A 69-year-old woman from Lydney who was driving a white Ford Escort and her 70-year-old passenger suffered broken bones in the accident.
The women were both taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital after firefighters removed the roof of the car.
Their condition is not believed to be serious.
The cars collided in the junction with Highfield Hill at about 1.05pm.
Police, fire, ambulance and the air ambulance attended.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident which closed the A48 until 6pm on Thursday.
